PHILOPTOCHOS

Busy with plans for the Vasilopita Brunch to benefit St. Basil Academy the Philoptochos also had a great bus trip to the Metropolis Philoptochos Seminarian Student Aid Endowment Lunch in Stockton in December. Next year’s event will be held at Holy Cross in Belmont.

CHOIR

by Voula Brown, Director

As you know, the conference for held at Holy Trinity in June 2006, was a rousing success. Fareeda and I are still getting wonderful comments about the event.

It is no doubt due to the wonderful hospitality the entire parish showed our visitors that weekend. The books are finally finished up and it is my pleasure to tell you that the conference made $6,700 for our parish. Thank you all, again, for your outstanding help.

Anyone interested in procuring a CD of the combined singing the Divine Liturgy contact Eleni in the church office. Copies are now available for purchase.

On November 29, 2006, the choir had the privilege of singing at the ecumenical service with members of the Annunciation choir. The combined choirs were in wonderful voice. It was a very memorable event and it was our pleasure to participate.

Rehearsals are continuing on Sundays. Sunday, January 14 and Sunday, January 21. Anyone who can carry a tune and is interested in participating is welcome to join us. Please come up to the choir loft before church (10 a.m.) or talk to a choir member or Voula Brown.

SF PROJECT HOMELESS CONNECT

Project Homeless Connect on December 7, 2006 was another great success! 1993 homeless San Franciscans connected to services including 102 families. 331 people received benefits assistance (SSI, Food stamps, GA). 388 screened for employment opportunities including 60 applications for Safeway, 2 people were hired by CBS Outdoors. 150 people got flu shots. 267 people received medical care, 212 legal

assistance, 101 received methadone treatment, 118 dental screens, 79 received mental health and substance abuse services, 350 received eyeglasses, 150 people got haircuts, 750 people were able to re-connect to friends and families through free Sprint phone calls and Fedex holiday cards. 25,738 lbs of groceries were given away. 132 people were off the streets by the end of the day given shelter and housing.

Close to 1600 people volunteered to end homelessness and make a real difference in our community!

The next event is February 28! SFConnect.org is the new web site for volunteers. Please take a few minutes to register and sign up for an event.

San Francisco's homeless count will take place on the evening of Wednesday, January 31, 2007 from 8:00 pm until 12:00 am. In order to continue to qualify for federal government support of its homeless programs, the City must conduct a count of homeless persons living on the street every two years. Homeless Count is a city-wide effort staffed entirely by volunteers. More than 500 volunteers will be needed to ensure the whole city is covered. For more information please visit this site.
