To the Beloved Faithful of Holy Trinity
My Spiritual Children in the Lord
The sadness and shock which caused the resignation of your priest, Fr. Michael Pappas, is most genuinely shared by all.
Fr. Pappas has requested that he be removed from his position as your spiritual leader, as he struggles to grapple with the
dissolvement of his marriage.
As our Metropolis honors the sacredness of the Family, we grieve for this broken family; we pray for Presbytera Alexandra and
the children of this family.
In his treatise "On the Priesthood" St. John Chrysostom writes: "The priest's shortcomings simply cannot be concealed. On the contrary,
even the most trivial soon get known." As we mourn the departure of Fr. Michael from our midst, we pray to the Almighty to grant
him Foregiveness and Mercy.
The Parish of Holy Trinity, although it suffers now, has able leaders in all areas of her ministries, who, along with Fr. James Adams,
your pastor for the next few months, will continue to shine, as an example of Christian decication and stewardship. You are a family;
at this time of pain, you must act with love, patience, and understanding. Do not let anyone bring your good works to a halt. You have
been blessed by God with faith, determination and perseverence. Despite this terrible experience, your future looms bright ahead of
you.
Pray to God for understanding, compassion and above all, love.
The mission of your beloved parish is to progress in faith; and complete the good works which you have started for the Glory of His Name.
Your Orthodox School must develop further and continue to be a place where our young learn their faith and culture.
I am aware that our Lord has given you a formidable challenge with the departure of Fr. Michael. I also know that you will continue your
commitment to God, your parish and her future.
Now, it is time for us to forgive Fr. Michael, support Presbytera Alexandra and the children, who will need a great deal of love and care.
Pray for them that they may find the peace, mercy and compassion of Christ in their lives from now on.
With Love in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
+ His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco
