APRIL 6, 2006 CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL
OF THE GREAT EARTHQUAKE & FIRE
AT OLD HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, 345 SEVENTH STREET
The year 2006 marks a solemn observance for the City of San Francisco. On April 18, 1906, San Francisco suffered the devastating earthquake
and subsequent fire which dramatically impacted the City’s ethos and character forever. The first Holy Trinity sanctuary on Seventh Street,
built in 1904, was among the many houses of worship to suffer destruction in this calamity.
As the sole Greek Orthodox Church in San Francisco at the time of the Great Earthquake & Fire, Holy Trinity has been asked by the SF
Interfaith Council, in conjunction with the Mayor’s Office, to participate in this centennial observance. Old St. Mary’s Church
(660 California Street) will be the site of an Interfaith Memorial on April 18th at the noon hour.
A 100 Year Memorial Service for the Greek Orthodox faithful who perished in Great Earthquake & Fire will be led by His Eminence Metropolitan
Gerasimos of San Francisco, assisted by Holy Trinity Proistamenos Fr. Michael Pappas, at the Old Holy Trinity Church (345 Seventh Street)
on April 6, 2006 at 7:00pm. Fr. Alexis Limonczenko and the Parish Council of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which now worships
at the site, have graciously allowed Holy Trinity to return to the Church for this special memorial observance. This worship service promises
to be a very emotional and moving experience for the Greek Orthodox faithful, many of whom will be returning to the Seventh Street Church for
the first time since Holy Trinity moved to Brotherhood Way.
A major event for the Greek Orthodox community, a large attendance is anticipated. Details regarding transportation, parking, etc. will be
