Philoptochos Society
The official philanthropic organization of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, whose members are dedicated church women (and men) who offer
countless hours to the philanthropic, humanitarian, and Christian mission of the Church.
The main aim and purpose of Philoptochos is philanthropy, the loving care of human sufferings. Our goal is to help the poor, the destitute, the
hungry, the elderly, the sick, the unemployed, the orphaned, the imprisoned, the widowed, the disabled and victims of disasters whether in our
country or wherever the need arises.
Philoptochos’ sacred mission is to help at all levels of our church in cooperation with our parish priest for the welfare of our church
communities and the Orthodox Church in the United States. Our mission is to be achieved through our charitable and philanthropic efforts as
well as through the sponsorship of educational programs that will continue to enlighten us and our fellow parishioners.
Philoptochos membership is open to all women of the Orthodox faith and non-Orthodox women married in the Greek Orthodox Church.
General Meetings for Holy Trinity Philoptochos are scheduled for the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 at the Christopher Center.
Please join us!
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Historical Society
Those interested in the history of our community and the history of Greeks in the San Francisco area are invited to join this special fellowship.
(More information.)
Weekly Bible Study
Those interested in studying Holy Scripture are invited to join in a special fellowship designed to enrich their knowledge and appreciation of
our Orthodox Faith and Tradition. Our weekly Bible Study meets each Wednesday at 11:00am immediately following Paraclesis (service of healing
and intercession) in the Church’s conference room.
Each series examines a book of scripture how it is understood by our faith and how it is applicable to our daily lives. This growing study
seminar is truly blossoming into a vibrant forum of exchange. All are encouraged to attend and participate.
Holy Trinity Choir
Orchestrated by the gifted Choirmaster Voula Brown, our Choir is truly a jewel of the parish. Do you find yourself singing or humming during
liturgy? Have you always wanted to learn more about your faith and the traditions of our church through music? Have you ever wondered whether
you could learn how to sing? If you have, we invite you to join us Sunday mornings. We really enjoy singing to the glory of our Lord and welcome
anyone who wishes to give it a try. The only pre-requisites for joining the choir, are that you can carry a tune and can commit to at least
half of the services and rehearsals. We rehearse an average of twice a month after church on Sunday for about an hour. Can't read music? No
worries, just come with an open mind and heart and a willingness to learn. Have children who are interested in singing with the choir? Great!
They are also welcome, if they are old enough to sit through liturgy and like to sing.
Don't forget that the choir in connection with the Parish Council and the entire Holy Trinity Church family will be hosting the Greek Orthodox
Church Musicians of the San Francisco Metropolis June 29 - July 2, 2006. We look forward to working with the entire church community to make
this a successful event. The steering committee for the event is working on the groundwork and will be asking for assistance soon.

Holy Trinity Orthodox School - (website)
An outreach ministry of the parish, the Holy Trinity Orthodox School’s curriculum, campus life and extracurricular programs reflect the rich
traditions and ethos of the Orthodox Faith. Holy Trinity School is a Kindergarten through Eighth Grade which teaches a traditional academic curriculum striving to
educate the whole child, mind, soul and body. To this end, we work to help each child realize his and her full potential.
The Holy Trinity School Advisory Board, comprised of educators, alumni, those familiar with academic administration/finances, and the chairman
of the Holy Trinity Parents Association was formed by the Holy Trinity Parish Council to develop, implement and oversee the policies, budget,
curriculum, enrollment and marketing of the School. The Holy Trinity School Advisory Board meets on the second Tuesday of each month in the
Christopher Center and is chaired by Parish Council member Peter Roosakos.
The Holy Trinity School Parents Association, comprised of all of the parents of the School was formed for the purpose of apprising the
parents of work of the Advisory Board, gathering their input and ideas, raising funds for enrichment of the School’s resources, programs
and physical plant, and offering volunteer assistance. The Holy Trinity School Parents Association meets on the third Tuesday of each month
at the Christopher Center.
GOYA
Greek Orthodox Youth Association. It’s not easy to be a young person growing up in today’s society. Life’s pressures and morality gone astray
often leave our youth confused and vulnerable to the misguided ways of contemporary culture. Geared for young people ages 11-High School who
are seriously interested in facing life’s challenges by means of our rich Orthodox Christian faith. The group is divided by age into separate
age appropriate yet challenging discussions and activities. Drawing from Scripture and Tradition we will examine contemporary moral issues
and grapple with the ultimate question What Would Jesus Do? What Can I Do? See the our calendar for meeting times.
Altar Boys
Under the direction of Bill Callas young men baptized and confirmed in the Orthodox Christian faith ages nine through college will have the
privilege of serving at the Holy Altar for Sunday Divine Liturgy and the many other beautiful sacraments and services of the church. In
addition to serving with one’s team on assigned days, Altar Boys will be required to attend regular instructional
meetings. The young men serving in the altar will receive credit for Sunday School attendance enabling them to be
eligible for the St. Nicholas Ranch Camp Scholarships. Those young men interested in assisting the Chant Group will receive weekly
instruction in Byzantine Chant. More information on this rich learning opportunity to
follow.
Sunday School
Our young people ages three years through High School receive weekly catechetical instruction on the teachings of our faith each Sunday of the academic
year. The first teacher meeting will be held on Thursday, September 1 at 7:00. Parents are asked to bring their young people, on time, at 10:00 to the Fellowship Hall Lobby where they will be directed to
their respective class rooms. Prior to Holy Communion the students will be brought as a group together into the sanctuary where they will sit with their
teachers and classmates through the Dismissal, the youth homily and the receiving of Antidoron. Our young people are taught stewardship at this
young age by making their weekly offering to the ministries of Christ’s Church as they exit the sanctuary. They then are led by our faculty and staff to their
respective classrooms for conclusion of their week’s religious studies.
After the Divine Liturgy they remain in their class rooms until they are
picked up by their parents. Parents are encouraged to discuss the weekly
lessons with their children and to foster an Orthodox Christian environment of
prayer in the home. Upper grade students (3rd Grade and up) achieving perfect
attendance are gifted with a week’s stay at our Metropolis of San Francisco St.
Nicholas Ranch Camp.
For more information or to explore possible teaching opportunities in our
Sunday School please contact Director Theodora Halkias. A registration form is
available through the church office.
Greek School
Studies have shown that bilingual students perform with greater superiority
in academics. As much of the English language derives from the Greek roots,
we in our parish are blessed with a rich heritage worthy to pass on to the next
generation. Greek language classes are offered on Thursdays at 4:30PM.
Greek Language Program is $275 for the year and includes the text book fee.
Discounts are given for multiple students in the same family. We have an
excellent staff and an exciting program including a pre-school activity class.
Students of all levels and experience are invited to attend.
Orthodox Youth Athletic Association
Ever-so-popular at Holy Trinity and among the parishes of Northern California is the youth Basketball fellowship. The primary divisions of
participation are: Division A (7th & 8th grades), Division B (5th and 6th grades), Division C (3rd and 4th grades), High School and Adult.
Registration forms and more information will be available in October.
Greek Dance Groups
Dance is an important part of our Greek culture and a beautiful and fun way
for our young people to understand and appreciate our culture. As an incentive
to give serious discipline to learning and perfecting our native dances, our
young people participate in the annual Metropolis of San Francisco Folk Dance
Festival to held every February. Coordinating the dance
troupes at Holy Trinity is the very gifted and dedicated Dean Avdalas.
