The Missions & Evangelism Ministry is dedicated to supporting the work of the Orthodox Christian Mission Center and to growing Holy Trinity through evangelism.

Operation Lace-Up

July marks the beginning of Holy Trinity’s relationship with the national ministry FOCUS North America. The Fellowship of Orthodox Christians United to Serve is “a national movement of Orthodox Christians, united in faith and joined by a desire to provide action-oriented and sustainable solutions to poverty in communities across America. FOCUS has operations and youth volunteer experiences in more than 20 cities in the United States.”
FOCUS has partnered with TOMS Shoes to provide shoes for youth in poverty across the United States. This effort has been dubbed “Operation Lace-Up.” TOMS has a policy of donating one pair of shoes for every pair that the company sells. This generosity, combined with the resourcefulness of FOCUS, has made it possible for over 3000 pairs of shoes to be distributed to San Francisco young people in need, and Holy Trinity will serve as the distribution point.
On Monday, July 1 the shoes will be delivered to Holy Trinity. We will need a few persons with strong backs to move the shoes to a secure location on our campus. Sunday, July 14 at 1:00 pm, we will celebrate a “Liturgy after the Liturgy” by preparing the shoes for distribution. We will need about 35 people for this 3 hour effort.
This support of Operation Lace-Up by Holy Trinity will serve as a test of our capacity to conduct larger-scale outreach to those in need in cooperation with FOCUS. As a community of Believers, we feel called to help “the least of our brethren.” Thanks to the generosity of TOMS and the leadership of FOCUS Holy Trinity has the opportunity to respond to this holy vocation. The Philippines Connection: The Missions and Evangelism Ministry has committed to fostering parish-wide long-term support of the Church in the Philippines by Holy Trinity. Boxes are available for the donation of, icons, children’s Books about the Faith, children’s clothing multi-vitamins. Additionally, cash donations can be made toward the purchase of filing cabinets and patio furniture. As more needs emerge, they will be communicated to the Community. Recently, four more boxes of materials were sent to support the work of the Orthodox Church in the Philippines. Thanks to everyone for their generous donations. It costs $55 to ship one box.
